About the Event

The team of the project "Between Secularization and Reform: Religious Rationalism in the Late 17th Century and in the Enlightenment" are pleased to invite you to a book launch of Anna Tomaszewska's "Kant's Rational Religion and the Radical Enlightenment. From Spinoza to Contemporary Debates" (Bloomsbury, 2022).

Tomaszewska challenges the view of Kant as attempting to merely reconcile faith and reason and reconceptualizes his religious thought along rationalist lines. By doing so, she opens up the possibility of understanding Kant in terms of the radical enlightenment originating with Spinoza rather than, as before, classifying him as a moderate enlightener.

The event consists of a presentation by the author, followed by three commentaries and a discussion. Commentators include Diego Lucci (American University in Bulgaria), Stephen Palmquist (Hong Kong Baptist University), and Wojciech Kozyra (University of Warsaw).

The hybrid event will take place on April 27th at 18:00 CET in Kraków, at Grodzka 52 Street, in room 5 at the Collegium Broscianum at the Institute of Religious Studies (Jagiellonian University). Registration is available online at the project website https://www.religiousrationalism.com/events
